The Cloverbelt East boys’ basketball conference saw exciting action on Thursday night, while the Mosinee girls’ team achieved a significant non-conference victory.
In Colby, Columbus Catholic defeated the Hornets 84-65, solidifying their position at the top of the conference standings. The Dons now hold an 11-1 conference record, tied with Loyal for first place. Columbus Catholic’s next challenge comes on Tuesday when they face Owen-Withee. Colby, following the loss, falls to a 4-14 record and will host Gilman on Tuesday.
Owen-Withee also secured a win on Thursday, triumphing over Spencer on the road with a final score of 75-53. The Blackhawks built a ten-point lead in the first half and continued to extend their advantage throughout the game. Owen-Withee now boasts a 12-7 overall record, while Spencer’s record drops to 15-6. Owen-Withee will face Greenwood/Granton on Monday, and Spencer will look to rebound against Chequamegon.
On the girls’ side, Mosinee delivered an impressive performance, defeating Colfax 68-42 in a road game. This victory marks only the third loss of the season for Colfax. Mosinee’s record improves to 16-4 with the win. They are scheduled to play Northland Pines on Friday.
The D.C. Everest boys, Columbus Catholic boys, and Mosinee girls all secured wins on Friday, according to a Facebook post from WSAW NewsChannel 7.
Earlier in the week, on February 7th, D.C. Everest defeated Marshfield 82-77, moving into a tie for first place in the Valley Conference with a 5-1 record. D.C. Everest’s overall record is now 15-2, and they will play Medford on Saturday. Marshfield’s record falls to 15-3, and they will play Brookfield Central on Saturday.
Columbus Catholic also secured a decisive victory on February 7th, defeating Spencer 81-48. The Dons now lead the Cloverbelt East conference with a 10-1 record, following a loss by Loyal on Friday night. Columbus Catholic will play Rib Lake on Tuesday. Spencer’s record is now 14-5, and they will play Chequamegon on Monday.
Mosinee continued their winning streak on February 7th, defeating Medford 78-43 to remain undefeated in the GNC with an 11-0 record. Mosinee’s overall record is 14-4, and they will play Antigo on Tuesday. Medford’s conference record is 8-2, and they will play at Merrill on Tuesday.
