Bulgaria’s DARA is preparing to represent the nation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna with her song “Bangaranga,” after securing victory in the Natsionalnata Selektsiya 2026 selection process. The singer is slated to depart for Vienna this Sunday, according to reports from BNT, and iustitia.bg.
The selection process involved three songs performed by DARA – “This is Me,” “Curse,” and “Bangaranga.” The final decision was determined by a 50/50 split between jury votes and public voting, as reported by esccovers.com.
Collaboration and Recent Performances
DARA recently collaborated with Serbian singer Željko Joksimović, performing “Lane moje” in a performance described as a “genuine ‘Bangaranga’ collaboration” by 24chasa.bg. This collaboration highlights DARA’s momentum as she prepares for the international stage.

She also recently performed “Bangaranga” at the Bucharest Eurovision Pre-Party 2026, as documented in a video shared by Euromelody and reported by news.google.com. This performance provided a preview of her stage presence and the song’s energy to a wider Eurovision audience.
Rising Popularity and Chart Success
“Bangaranga” has quickly gained traction, recently reaching the top spot on the charts, surpassing a previously favored competitor, according to Signal.bg. This ascent indicates growing support for DARA and her entry.
DARA, born in Varna, Bulgaria on September 8, 1998, has established herself as a prominent figure in the Bulgarian music industry. She first gained recognition as a third-place finisher on X Factor Bulgaria in 2015, the same season that Kristian Kostov, Bulgaria’s 2017 Eurovision representative, finished as runner-up.
Since then, DARA has achieved significant chart success with numerous number-one hits in Bulgaria. Eurovision.com reports that her songs and videos have amassed over 80 million listens and views. Her popular singles include “Thunder,” “Call Me,” and “Mr. Rover.” She has released two albums, “Rodena takava” in 2022 and “Adhdara” last year.
Bulgaria’s Eurovision History
Bulgaria is returning to Eurovision after a hiatus since 2022. The nation first participated in the contest in 2005 and has competed 14 times. While Bulgaria has achieved five top-15 finishes, they have reached the top five three times, with Kristian Kostov’s second-place finish with “Beautiful Mess” in 2017 being their closest attempt at victory.
Poli Genova secured a fourth-place finish with “If Love was a Crime” in 2016, and Elitsa Todorova and Stoyan Yankoulov achieved fifth place with “Water” in 2007. DARA aims to build upon this history of success and potentially secure Bulgaria’s first-ever Eurovision win.
DARA is also actively involved in nurturing the Bulgarian music scene, serving as a coach on The Voice of Bulgaria since 2021.
Preparations for the Vienna performance are underway, with DARA and director Fredrik Rydman currently in Athens finalizing details, as shared on Instagram, with the goal of achieving a historic victory for Bulgaria.
