Egypt and Angola are actively working to deepen their bilateral relationship, with a particular focus on expanding economic and political cooperation. This commitment was underscored during a phone conversation on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Angolan counterpart, Tete Antonio, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Cairo intends to actively promote increased involvement of Egyptian businesses in Angola’s growing market, building upon existing partnerships. Opportunities are notably promising in crucial sectors like infrastructure progress, energy, and telecommunications, leveraging the proven capabilities of Egyptian companies in delivering large-scale projects throughout Africa.
Egypt also expressed strong support for Angola’s current leadership role as chair of the African Union (AU). Angola is navigating meaningful challenges related to peace, security, and sustainable development across the continent. Egypt affirmed its commitment to close collaboration with Luanda, both within the AU framework and in other international organizations, including reciprocal support for each nation’s diplomatic initiatives.
Preparations for the upcoming Africa-European Union summit, scheduled to take place in Luanda, Angola, on November 24-25, 2025, were also a key topic of discussion. Both ministers emphasized the importance of a prosperous summit that prioritizes African interests, particularly in addressing critical issues such as peace and security, combating terrorism, and fostering inclusive and sustainable development.
