Lebanese music icon Fairuz has not retired from singing, according to the head of the Lebanese Musicians’ Union, who addressed widespread rumors circulating on social media in mid-April 2026. Farid Bou Said, president of the union, confirmed that the reports claiming Fairuz’s retirement or withdrawal from public life were baseless and unfounded.

Bou Said stated that he had not made any recent comments regarding Fairuz’s retirement and emphasized that the singer remains at her home, living her life normally. He dismissed the speculation as false information that had caused unnecessary concern among fans and within artistic circles.

The clarification came after a wave of concern spread online following claims that Fairuz had withdrawn completely from public view. Bou Said attributed her recent rare appearances not to retirement but to a difficult psychological state stemming from personal losses.

He revealed that Fairuz is grieving the deaths of her two sons: Ziad Rahbani, a prominent musician, who passed away recently, and Hali Rahbani, who died in January 2026 at the age of 68 after a prolonged illness. Hali had been particularly close to Fairuz and had received her direct care due to his health condition.

The loss of Hali came just months after the death of her brother, Ziad Rahbani, compounding her emotional distress. Bou Said noted that Fairuz had previously lost her daughter Layal in 1988, and that her daughter Reema Rahbani is now her only remaining immediate family member.

Despite her psychological struggles, Bou Said affirmed that Fairuz’s condition does not warrant medical concern and that she continues to reside in her home under normal circumstances. He urged the public to disregard unverified reports and respect her privacy during this challenging time.
