Preparing for a family – whether through starting or expanding – often prompts a significant reassessment of priorities, particularly when it comes to healthcare needs and associated costs. As families evolve, so too do their healthcare requirements, from prenatal care through the early years of a child’s life. Navigating these changes effectively requires careful consideration of health coverage options.
Recently, Great Eastern introduced its P Prime plans, designed to offer a balance of value and flexibility for families seeking private healthcare access. These plans complement the insurer’s existing GREAT SupremeHealth plans and the GREAT TotalCare supplementary plan, aiming to provide a more personalized healthcare journey.
Comprehensive Care for Expectant Mothers
The P Prime plans offer expectant mothers access to specialist care for pregnancy and childbirth complications at selected women’s clinics, including Mount Alvernia Hospital, Thomson Medical Centre, and Raffles Hospital. This access allows for continuity of care, enabling expectant mothers to see the same gynaecologist throughout their pregnancy and delivery. This continuity can be particularly valuable when complications arise, facilitating a smoother transition to specialized paediatric care if needed.
The focus on curated panel specialists emphasizes dedicated attention and thoughtful follow-up, providing reassurance to parents that their needs are understood and supported throughout the pregnancy and delivery process.
Flexibility in Healthcare Settings
Recognizing that families have diverse preferences and financial considerations, the P Prime plans also support treatment at restructured hospitals. This provides flexibility, allowing families to access quality care with potentially lower out-of-pocket expenses alongside the option of private hospital care. This tiered approach allows families to right-size their coverage based on their individual circumstances.
Early Childhood Specialist Access
The need for specialist care doesn’t end with childbirth. The early years of a child’s life often involve frequent check-ups and potential consultations with paediatric specialists for developmental concerns, infections, or conditions that may emerge after birth. Access to the right specialists during these formative years can provide parents with valuable reassurance and support.
Financial Protection for Congenital Abnormalities
For parents already covered under GREAT SupremeHealth, there’s built-in financial protection for their newborns. Coverage for congenital abnormalities is included, up to $5,000 per child, starting from birth. This coverage applies to expenses incurred within 730 days of the child’s birth, provided the diagnosis is made after 300 days from the last policy effective date.
if a child has their own GREAT SupremeHealth plan from as early as 15 days old, this coverage for congenital abnormalities extends for life, provided the condition is diagnosed after the policy is in force.
24/7 Support with Great Medical Care Concierge
Unexpected medical situations can arise at any time. Great Eastern’s Integrated Shield Plan policyholders now have access to the Great Medical Care Concierge, a round-the-clock service designed to provide support during these times. This service offers assistance with:
- Access to a network of over 800 panel specialists across all specialties in Singapore.
- Coordination of appointment bookings at both private and restructured hospitals.
- Expert guidance on policy coverage and treatment options to help manage out-of-pocket expenses.
- Follow-up care guidance and post-discharge support.
This concierge service aims to alleviate the burden on parents navigating complex medical care, providing a single point of contact for assistance and information.
Affordability and Planning
“Planning for a family often means thinking ahead about both care needs and costs,” says Mr. David Yip, Head of Accident and Health Business, Great Eastern. “The P Prime plans, which are the most affordable option within our suite of private healthcare plans, are designed to support this early planning and help parents right-size their coverage.”
