Netflix has ordered a new adult animated comedy series, Dad’s House, from Australian creators Michael Cusack, Dario Russo, and David Ashby. The series, set in suburban Australia, will follow a 13-year-old boy named Sean as he navigates every-other-weekend visits with his well-meaning but often chaotic father, Ian.
The announcement, initially reported by Variety, confirms that Cusack, Russo, and Ashby will also voice characters in the show. Felicity Ward, known for her roles in The Office, Wakefield, and The Inbetweeners 2, is also set to lend her voice to the animated series.
A New Addition to Netflix’s Adult Animation Slate
Dad’s House joins Netflix’s growing collection of adult animated comedies. The streaming platform currently offers titles like DANG!, Alley Cats, and Haunted Hotel, and recently launched Long Story Short from BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, which was renewed for a second season prior to its premiere. Upcoming series include Mating Season, from the creators of Big Mouth.
According to a synopsis provided by Netflix, the series explores the challenges of “cramming quality dad-time into a single weekend” when the father in question “has a remarkable gift for making it so much harder than it needs to be.”
The Creative Team Behind the Series
Michael Cusack is best known for creating YOLO and co-creating Smiling Friends, both of which aired on Adult Swim in the United States. YOLO ran for three seasons, while Smiling Friends had three seasons and three short films. Smiling Friends received positive reviews, with the New York Times describing it as “warped” and “fast and feral.” Film Daze called it “an entertaining animated comedy with a short run time and sharp critique of late-stage capitalism.”
Dario Russo and David Ashby are credited with work on Danger 5, Italian Spiderman, and The Fox. The series is being produced by Princess Pictures and Bento Box Entertainment.
No release date for Dad’s House has been announced as of April 29, 2026.
