The first-person shooter MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is scheduled for release on 16 April 2026. To mark the upcoming launch, a final trailer has been released detailing the game’s blend of investigation and combat.

Developed by Fumi Games and published by PlaySide Studios, the title is a 2.5D shooter that utilizes a visual style inspired by the hand-drawn rubber hose animation of 1930s cartoons. The character designs are loosely based on early Mickey Mouse animations.

Gameplay and Mechanics

The game is described as a boomer shooter-inspired experience that combines high-adrenaline action with a jazz-fueled atmosphere. The gameplay is split between two distinct styles: investigative segments and combat encounters.

During investigative sections, players must find clues and solve puzzles to progress through the narrative. The combat sections involve shootouts where the protagonist utilizes a variety of weapons and gadgets.

The arsenal available to the player includes:

  • Machine guns and explosive firepower
  • Experimental and creatively twisted firearms
  • Melee weapons
  • Cartoon gadgets
  • Spinach-loaded power-ups for extra strength

Story and Setting

Players take on the role of Jack Pepper, an anthropomorphic, hardboiled mouse detective and former war hero. The character is voiced by actor Troy Baker.

The story is set in the city of Mouseburg, where the plot begins with a simple missing persons case. This investigation quickly escalates into a broader conspiracy involving kidnapping, murder, and systemic corruption.

As Pepper navigates the seedy underbelly of the city, he must battle crooked police officers and heavily armed gangs to uncover the truth buried beneath the surface.

Technical Details and Availability

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is built using the Unity engine. The game is designed as a single-player experience.

On 16 April 2026, the game will be available on the following platforms:

  • Windows
  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X/S
  • Nintendo Switch 2

The developers have also confirmed that versions for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the original Nintendo Switch are planned for release at a later date, though those specific dates have not yet been announced.
