Businessman Sean Walsh is preparing to reopen a prominent venue on Hanover Street in Cork City, transforming the site into a new nightclub called Odyssey. The venue, which spans 25,000 square feet across two floors, is currently undergoing a comprehensive revamp and is scheduled to open its doors in April 2026.

The location has a long history in the Cork nightlife scene, having previously operated as the nightclubs Spiders and Cubins and most recently as the Holy Cow. The venue had been closed since the onset of the covid-19 pandemic.

Investment and Development

Mr. Walsh, a businessman from Crosshaven who also operates Angels on Leitrim Street in Cork City, decided to take on the venture following a conversation with one of the club’s previous owners. The project has been in development for several months.

Investment and Development

The objective for the new establishment is to create an atmosphere that is fun and retro, according to Mr. Walsh. The redevelopment aims to address a perceived lack of nightclubs and nightlife options within the city center.

Local Market Context

The reopening of Odyssey follows other recent activity in the city’s entertainment sector. A few months prior to this development, the Savoy on St Patrick’s Street was relaunched by promoters Joe Kelly, Ed O’Leary, and Caoilian Sherlock of The Good Room. The Savoy had been closed for 10 years before its extensive makeover.

Hanover Street, where Odyssey is located, runs parallel to Washington Street and connects to South Main Street. The street has historically hosted various bars and nightclubs over several decades, including the previous iterations of the venue such as Spiders and Cubins.

I was hearing so many people complaining about the lack of nightclubs and nightlife in Cork City.

Sean Walsh
