Ushuaia, Argentina – Hundreds of people have embraced Christianity following a two-day evangelical outreach event led by American evangelist Franklin Graham in the southernmost city in the world. The event, known as “Esperanza Ushuaia” (Hope Ushuaia), concluded on February 15th, 2026, at the José “Cochocho” Vargas Stadium, drawing attendees from across the region.

Ushuaia, often referred to as the “city at the end of the world” due to its remote location approximately 650 miles from the Antarctic peninsula, faces significant social challenges, including a notably high suicide rate. Organizers stated the theme of “hope” – reflected in the event’s Spanish name, “esperanza” – was central to addressing these concerns.

Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and Samaritan’s Purse, focused his message on the biblical story of Bartimaeus, a blind beggar featured in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 10. He recounted the story to the thousands in attendance, emphasizing Bartimaeus’s initial despair and subsequent healing through faith.

“Bartimaeus had no hope,” Graham told the audience, according to reports from the BGEA. “He thought nobody could help him. There’s nothing he could do but sit on the side of the road … But he cried out to Jesus.” He then directly challenged those present, asking, “In the same way, there’s nothing you can do to get rid of your sins. You cannot save yourself. Will you come to Christ tonight?”

The outreach event saw the stadium filled to capacity for two consecutive nights, with an overflow crowd gathering outside to view the proceedings on screens. Hundreds of individuals reportedly responded to Graham’s invitation, publicly declaring their faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to repentance.

One attendee, identified as Walter, shared his personal story following the event, describing how he had overcome years of addiction and homelessness through faith. “I just knew I needed to repent of my sins,” Walter said. “God has been so good to me. I know it’s as of Him that I’m not suffering cold or hunger. I know it’s time to grant Him everything.”

Following the conclusion of the event, Graham expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to preach in Ushuaia. “It was such a privilege to preach the Gospel here at the southernmost city of the world!” he stated. “The Microestadio Cochocho was packed again today with a full overflow area… The Good News is that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, from Heaven to this earth to save us. He took our sin on the Cross, shed His blood, was buried, and God raised Him to life on the third day! We give God the glory for each one who responded to the invitation to turn from their sins and put their trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior today.”

The “Esperanza Ushuaia” outreach represents a continuation of the BGEA’s global evangelistic efforts. The organization has conducted similar events in numerous countries, aiming to share the Gospel message and provide spiritual support to communities facing hardship. The choice of Ushuaia as a location underscores a deliberate effort to reach populations in geographically and socially challenging environments.

The event’s focus on hope resonates particularly strongly in Ushuaia, a city grappling with socioeconomic difficulties and mental health concerns. Argentina has faced ongoing economic instability in recent years, contributing to social pressures and a sense of uncertainty among its citizens. The high suicide rate in Ushuaia, as highlighted by event organizers, points to a critical need for accessible mental health resources and community support systems.

While the immediate impact of the outreach will be measured by the number of individuals who publicly professed faith, the long-term effects remain to be seen. The BGEA typically provides follow-up support to new converts, connecting them with local churches and resources to nurture their faith. The extent to which this support network will be established and sustained in Ushuaia will be a key factor in determining the lasting impact of “Esperanza Ushuaia.”

The event also drew attention on social media, with Franklin Graham sharing images and reflections on his experience in Ushuaia on his Twitter account on February 16th, 2026. The post highlighted the significance of sharing the Gospel message in a location often described as “the end of the world.”
