An outbreak of acute gastroenteritis has affected hundreds of residents in the commune of Rousset in the Bouches-du-Rhône department of southeastern France, with water contamination suspected as the source.
According to investigations by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) and Public Health France Paca-Corse, approximately 750 people have reported symptoms of the illness since the outbreak began around April 13, 2026.
Symptoms reported by those affected include diarrhea and vomiting, with 90 percent of respondents to an online questionnaire experiencing these symptoms. Among the infected, 85 percent were either residents of Rousset or had visited the town in the days prior to falling ill.
