Google will rebrand the Fitbit app as Google Health starting May 19, 2026. The transition will be deployed as an automatic over-the-air update, meaning users cannot opt out of the change and will not need to download a separate application.

Existing Fitbit data will carry over to the new platform without the need for manual migration. Users of Google Fit will be invited to migrate their data to Google Health later in 2026.

Google began sending push notifications and in-app pop-ups to Fitbit users on May 10, 2026, to notify them of the upcoming rebrand ahead of the May 19 update.

The updated Google Health app features a redesigned interface organized into four primary tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health. The layout is customizable, allowing users to pin specific health metrics to dashboards at the top of the Health and Today pages.

The software update introduces several new functional capabilities. Google states that the redesigned sleep tracking model is 15% more accurate than previous versions. The app now includes nutrition logging with personalized targets for water and calorie intake.

The app also introduces the ability to display health data alongside uploaded medical records. An AI feature called Ask Coach can answer user questions by utilizing the information contained within those medical records.

Further updates include an interactive calendar and improved navigation and logging for cycle tracking. For social competition, Google has expanded the leaderboards used for cardio load and step tracking comparisons among friends.

To broaden its ecosystem, the app supports devices and services beyond Google, and Fitbit. Through Google Health APIs and Health Connect, the app integrates with third-party platforms including Peloton, MyFitnessPal, and Apple Health.

Along with the software transition, Google is renaming Fitbit Premium to Google Health Premium. While the monthly subscription fee remains $9.99, the annual subscription price is increasing from $79.99 to $99.99, a $20 increase.

A basic version of Google Health remains free, providing users with activity tracking, health monitoring, sleep tracking, and manual wellness logging. However, the AI-powered training feature known as Health Coach—which was previously tested as Fitbit Health Coach—requires a paid subscription.

Google Health Premium is now included at no additional cost for subscribers of Google AI Pro and Ultra in more than 30 countries. This benefit was previously limited to users in the United Kingdom under the Fitbit Premium branding.

The rebrand primarily affects subscription services and software. Fitbit will continue to operate as a hardware brand. The recently announced Fitbit Air device retains the Fitbit name and uses the Google Health app for its companion functionality.
