Chauvin, who attended Brennan Catholic High School in Windsor, joined the Naval Reserve in 2018 through a co-operative education opportunity. Since then, he has served as the basic training coordinator at HMCS Hunter while also volunteering regularly at Windsor’s Downtown Mission.
Reflecting on his journey, Chauvin said he never imagined reaching this point eight years ago when he described himself as a shy and introverted individual. He emphasized that the recognition reflects not only his personal growth but also the support and opportunities provided by his leadership within the reserves.
Even if it’s just kind of in a broad sense where I’m serving Canada as part of the armed forces, it gives me an opportunity to be a part of that and be a part of something bigger than myself. To me, that’s something really important.

Chauvin added that seeing his progression from a reserved youth to a recognized leader has prompted meaningful reflection, stating that the award validates both his current efforts and the person he has become through service.
Beyond his duties at HMCS Hunter, Chauvin has participated in training and operations across Canada and Europe. He was deployed to Latvia as part of Operation REASSURANCE, NATO’s enhanced forward presence initiative in Eastern Europe.
He described the experience of working with dedicated colleagues and contributing to meaningful missions as deeply rewarding, noting that the recognition belongs to the team that enabled his success.
It’s really good to get recognized, but to get recognized means that my leadership has done a great job in providing me with the opportunities to allow me to achieve this award.
