Hyundai Motor Company has officially launched its IONIQ brand in China, introducing a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) strategy designed specifically for the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) market. The launch took place during the IONIQ Brand Launch Event held from April 7 to April 10, 2026, at Hyundai Motorstudio Beijing.

As part of this market entry, the company unveiled two all-electric concept cars: the VENUS Concept, a sedan, and the EARTH Concept, a family SUV. These vehicles serve as the first tangible expressions of the brand’s renewed presence in China and are intended to demonstrate the future direction of the IONIQ lineup.

A Customized Approach for the Chinese Market

Hyundai has positioned the IONIQ brand in China as more than a product lineup, describing it as a broader mobility ecosystem. The company stated that it spent years preparing the brand for this specific market, integrating local technologies and partnerships while maintaining established global standards for quality, and safety.

A central component of this strategy is a new naming convention tailored for Chinese consumers. The IONIQ lineup will derive its model names from the planetary system revolving around the sun. This naming scheme is intended to symbolize a universe centered on the customer and facilitate a fully customized EV experience.

Concept Vehicle Details

The two premiered concepts are designed to establish a strong first impression through unique silhouettes and a design ethos described by the company as Lead, don’t follow.

Concept Vehicle Details
  • VENUS Concept: A trend-setting sedan designed to showcase the brand’s aesthetic and technological direction.
  • EARTH Concept: A dependable family SUV focused on utility and reliability.

These concepts highlight Hyundai’s readiness to compete in China’s NEV sector by combining the company’s globally validated expertise—which includes honors such as World Car of the Year—with localized development.

Corporate Vision and Strategy

The launch is guided by Hyundai’s broader brand vision, Progress for Humanity. According to the company, this vision emphasizes the role of technology in serving a greater purpose and ensures that safety and quality remain the foundation of consumer trust.

By establishing the IONIQ brand in Beijing, Hyundai aims to open a new chapter in its operations within China, leveraging its international experience to build a localized electric mobility presence.
