Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has stated that a neighboring country, which is also a member of the BRICS grouping, is attempting to derail a joint statement by pushing for the condemnation of Iran.
The comments come amid a BRICS meeting held in India, where diplomatic frictions have emerged regarding the language and content of the bloc’s collective agreements.
According to Gharibabadi, the effort by the neighboring member state to seek a formal condemnation of Iran is an attempt to scuttle the joint statement entirely.
In addition to the diplomatic tensions within the BRICS bloc, the Deputy Foreign Minister revealed that Iran is currently developing a “Hormuz protocol.”
Gharibabadi indicated that this protocol is being designed to cover “costs” associated with the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint for global energy shipments.
