Katseye, the globally popular girl group formed through Netflix’s Pop Star Academy, are openly discussing the possibility of individual pursuits, but with a clear intention to avoid the pitfalls that have plagued other successful groups. In a new interview with The Cut, members Lara Raj and Manon Bannerman addressed the future of the six-member ensemble, acknowledging that solo ambitions are natural while expressing a desire to manage any eventual transition with sensitivity and foresight.

“We all know that we all have goals beyond Katseye,” Raj explained to Brooke LaMantia of The Cut. “And we talk about it a lot with each other, actually. We each have such different styles of music and different tastes.” This acknowledgement of individual creative directions comes as Katseye continues to enjoy a meteoric rise, fueled by a viral Gap campaign, a record-breaking performance at Lollapalooza, and two Grammy nominations, as reported by the Los Angeles Times in December 2025.

The group’s openness about future solo work is, in part, a reaction to the highly publicized and often acrimonious splits of groups like One Direction. Bannerman specifically referenced the One Direction breakup, stating, “When One Direction split, that was really hard. I don’t want our fans to go through that. I don’t want to be responsible for breaking so many hearts.” This sentiment underscores a commitment to maintaining a positive relationship with their fanbase, even as individual members explore other avenues.

While the prospect of solo careers is on the table, Katseye isn’t imminently disbanding. Bannerman reassured fans that “Katseye is going to stay Katseye for a while.” This suggests a phased approach, allowing members to pursue individual projects while still maintaining the group’s identity and momentum.

The potential solo paths being considered are diverse. According to The Cut, Daniela Avanzini and Bannerman have expressed interest in acting. Avanzini has already begun exploring this avenue, with Bannerman recently making her acting debut in a short film by Sophie Hall-Mochkatel, titled “Not Bad.” Sophia Laforteza, meanwhile, has her sights set on musical theatre, specifically aiming to play Kim in a future production of Miss Saigon.

These individual pursuits aren’t entirely new. Raj has already been actively involved in music production, releasing a remix of Katseye’s hit song “Gnarly” featuring Lancey Foux and Slushpuppy. This demonstrates a proactive approach to individual creativity, even while remaining a core member of the group.

Katseye’s formation itself was a unique experiment, a collaboration between Geffen Records and HYBE Entertainment, the Korean entertainment giant behind BTS. The group was assembled after a worldwide search, attracting over 100,000 applicants, as noted in a Reddit discussion on r/TheDreamAcademy. This unconventional origin story, documented on the Netflix series Pop Star Academy, has contributed to their global appeal and distinct identity.

The group’s success is built on a foundation of intensive training and a blend of musical styles, drawing inspiration from both American and Korean pop traditions. Their hypnotic choreography, playful lyrics, and energetic performances have quickly resonated with audiences worldwide. The Beautiful Chaos tour, which included stops in Los Angeles in December 2025, further solidified their position as a major force in the global music scene.

The careful consideration Katseye is giving to the possibility of solo careers reflects a maturity and awareness rarely seen in young pop groups. By openly acknowledging individual ambitions and prioritizing fan sentiment, they are attempting to navigate a potentially challenging transition in a way that minimizes disruption and preserves the strong bond they’ve built with their audience. The group’s approach suggests a model for other ensembles seeking to balance individual growth with collective success, learning from the experiences of those who came before them.
