The visit was confirmed on May 12, 2026, by the film’s distributor, Media Castle. Kore-eda will be accompanied by child actor Rimu Kuwaki during the two-day promotional event.
The Sheep in the Box is a sci-fi drama that centers on a Japanese couple who welcome a humanoid robot into their home. The robot is designed to resemble the couple’s late son.
The production has gained international attention after being selected as one of 22 films invited to compete for the top honor in the Competition section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
Following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, The Sheep in the Box is scheduled to open in South Korean theaters on June 10, 2026.
The film joins other notable entries at the festival, including Na Hong-jin’s sci-fi thriller Hope, which is also appearing in the main competition, and July Jung’s Dora, which is set to premiere in the Directors’ Fortnight section.
