The Los Angeles City Council has officially designated “K-Expo USA” as a city event, according to an announcement made on May 11, 2026, by South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency.

The official declaration ceremony was held at the Los Angeles City Hall main chamber, where the city council awarded a certification of official recognition following a formal resolution. The ceremony was co-hosted by Los Angeles City Council member John Lee and Steve Kang, the chair of the Los Angeles Public Works Committee.

A variety of high-level representatives from both South Korean and American organizations attended the event. This included officials from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles, the Korean Cultural Center, the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of California, and the Los Angeles Tourism Board. Yoo Hyun-seok, the Acting President of the Korea Creative Content Agency, was among the key figures present during the presentation of the resolution.

K-Expo USA is scheduled to begin on May 23, 2026, and will run for three days in Los Angeles. The event is designed as a comprehensive showcase of South Korean culture and industry, supported by five government ministries and six agencies.

The expo will feature participation from approximately 130 content companies and 150 overseas buyers. The scope of the event covers multiple creative and commercial sectors, including dramas, animation, games, webtoons, food, and cosmetics. Beyond public exhibitions and experiential activities, the event will include dedicated sessions for export consultations to facilitate business partnerships between Korean companies and international buyers.

The entertainment program for the expo will include K-pop performances by Jay Park, P1Harmony, and Longshot. Netflix will host an exhibition detailing the production processes of South Korean video content and showcasing major works from the platform.

The Korea Football Association will also maintain a presence at the event by operating a booth that offers experiences related to the South Korean national football team.

The official recognition of K-Expo USA follows a pattern of the city of Los Angeles honoring significant South Korean cultural contributions. The production team of the Netflix series “Squid Game” previously received a similar certification of recognition from the city, and professional footballer Son Heung-min was granted honorary citizenship.
