Argentine Man Denies Responsibility in Girlfriend’s Fall from Second Story
La Plata, Argentina – – The boyfriend of Rocío Alvarito, the 26-year-old woman who died after falling from a second-floor balcony, has denied responsibility for her death, according to reports. Marcos Ariel García, the sole detainee in the case, told authorities that Alvarito jumped of her own volition, though he attempted to stop her.
García stated he tried to prevent her from jumping, but she pushed him away before falling, the agency Noticias Argentinas reported. The incident occurred at the couple’s apartment located on Diagonal 76 and Calle 22, in the La Loma neighborhood.
During his statement, García reportedly appeared distressed and broke down in tears before Fiscal Álvaro Garganta, of Functional Instruction and Trial Unit No. 11. He stated he had gone over 30 hours without eating or sleeping since the incident occurred.
The suspect admitted to having an argument with the victim and said he went outside to call for help from neighbors when she fell. He also indicated he would expand on his statement when he was in a better condition.

The defense has stated there were no prior reports of gender-based violence and that You’ll see no injuries consistent with physical aggression by García towards the victim. However, sources close to the case confirmed to TN that there were known instances of violence within the couple’s inner circle and that the relationship was troubled.
The investigation indicates that during the early hours of Thursday, Alvarito called for help, attempted to leave the apartment and her partner prevented her. In desperation, she tried to escape through the balcony, a maneuver that cost her life.
The case is currently classified as “abandonment of a person resulting in death,” a charge that carries a potential sentence of 5 to 15 years in prison. García is currently being held at the Fourth Police Station while investigators gather further evidence.
Evidence collected so far includes testimonies from neighbors, medical reports from the SAME ambulance service that transported the young woman to Rossi Hospital, and the autopsy report.
