Lebanese Journalist Amal Khalil Killed in Israeli Airstrike in Southern Lebanon, Body Recovered by Rescuers

Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in the town of Al-Tiri in southern Lebanon, her employer Al-Akhbar newspaper confirmed.

Rescuers recovered her body from beneath rubble hours after the attack, according to the civil defense agency’s press office, which stated they were “able to recover the body of martyred journalist Amal Khalil, who was killed as a result of a hostile airstrike that targeted a house in the town of Al-Tiri.”

Khalil had been covering the Israel-Hezbollah conflict since October 2023 and was reporting during the latest war, Al-Akhbar said in confirming her death.

Lebanese authorities said Israeli forces trapped Khalil and another journalist, Zeinab Faraj, in the town after an initial drone strike nearby, which killed two other people, and blocked rescue teams from reaching the site.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli forces prevented the Red Cross and the Lebanese army from accessing the area where the journalists were trapped.

The agency later reported that several people, including journalists, were wounded in a second airstrike, without specifying the number of casualties.

Al-Akhbar newspaper confirmed Khalil’s death and noted her long-standing coverage of the conflict in southern Lebanon.
