Lin Yu-ting, Taiwan’s first Olympic boxing gold medalist, earned a bronze medal in the women’s 60kg division at the 2026 Asian Boxing Elite Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The result followed a semi-final loss on April 6, 2026.
The tournament marked the first international competition for the 30-year-old boxer since her gold-medal performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the semi-final bout, Lin lost 4-1 to Won Un-gyong of North Korea.
Match Details and Scoring
The contest between Lin and Won saw the Taiwanese boxer level the bout during the second round. However, Won secured the victory by edging the third round, with all five judges scoring that specific round 10-9 in favor of the North Korean athlete.
The final scoring reflected a decisive win for Won: four judges scored the match 29-28, while the fifth judge awarded all three rounds to Won. Only one judge scored the contest 29-28 in favor of Lin.
Tseng Tzu-chiang, Lin’s coach, suggested that Won’s aggressive fighting style may have influenced the judges’ decisions. He noted that the experience was valuable as the team adapted to a new weight class.
After all, this is our first time competing in the 60-kg division after the Olympics. The opponents’ skills, strategies and styles are all new to us, so we used this opportunity to observe and learn

Weight Class Transition and Eligibility
Lin entered the Asian Boxing Elite Championships having stepped up to the 60kg division, moving up from the 57kg category where she won her Olympic gold in Paris.
Her return to international competition follows a period of absence. Lin opted not to participate in the world championships in 2025 after the governing body World Boxing implemented a new eligibility policy requiring mandatory sex testing for women boxers.
This policy was introduced a year after Lin and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif both won gold medals in Paris amid a gender eligibility dispute. In March 2026, World Boxing cleared Lin to compete in the female category following an appeal submitted by the Chinese Taipei federation.
Broader Results and Future Goals
Taiwan secured at least two bronze medals at the championships. In addition to Lin’s achievement, compatriot Guo Yi-xuan also earned a bronze medal after falling in the women’s 51kg semi-finals.
Following the championships in Mongolia, Lin Yu-ting is focusing her preparations on the Asian Games, which are scheduled to take place in Japan later in 2026.
