Linköping Hockey Club has officially reached an agreement with Andreas Hägglund to serve as the club’s new General Manager. The contract between the SHL organization and Hägglund is signed through 2029.
The appointment follows a comprehensive recruitment process that included a specific requirement profile, interviews, personality tests, and reference checks. According to Linköping HC CEO and Club Director Carl-Johan Stålhammar, Hägglund was selected to lead the sporting operations as part of the club’s ongoing transformation journey.
Professional Background and Experience
Hägglund, 40, joins Linköping HC from Mora IK, where he spent the last five years as General Manager. During his tenure at Mora, he held overarching responsibility for both the A-team in Hockeyallsvenskan and the club’s J18 and J20 junior teams.
His experience at Mora IK included revitalizing the junior operations and constructing a competitive A-team while working with relatively limited financial resources. He also previously served as the youth coordinator and performed scouting duties for both junior and senior levels at Mora IK and the Hockeygymnasiet.
Reporting from Expressen notes that Hägglund’s success in building a scouting network and his effectiveness with North American imports were qualities highly valued by Linköping during their strategic shift.
Organizational Structure and Role
Hägglund’s arrival is part of a broader restructuring of the sporting leadership at Linköping HC. The club has also appointed club icon Broc Little as the new sports manager for the A-team.
While Little focuses on the A-team, Hägglund will operate as General Manager with a more operational responsibility and an overarching grip on the entire sporting organization. The club leadership is expected to present the full details of how this new organizational structure will be implemented in the near future.
Carl-Johan Stålhammar, Linköping HC CEO and Club Director
Andreas’ drive, commitment, thoroughness and structure are qualities we value highly. We see him as an important piece of the puzzle in our journey of change and believe that he will fit perfectly together with Broc Little.
Hägglund’s Perspective on the Move
Hägglund expressed inspiration regarding the move to the SHL club, noting the established reputation of Linköping HC and the potential for the organization to achieve strong results.
Andreas Hägglund
LHC is a very respected and established SHL club. I think there is incredible potential in Linköping Hockey Club. Notice great opportunities to be able to do something very good result-wise with essentially the whole association. Then there are incredible conditions with facilities, organization and so on. We see a club that should be able to do many good things going forward.
The transition marks the end of a decade-long association with Mora, where Hägglund was born and raised.
