LIV Golf has postponed its planned tournament in New Orleans, scheduled for June 25th, as questions continue regarding the league’s financial stability. The decision was made after discussions between LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil and Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois, according to a joint statement released Tuesday by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and Secretary Bourgeois.

While the event has been postponed, both parties expressed hope for a rescheduled tournament in the fall. The state of Louisiana has already invested $3.2 million in preparation for the event, with $2 million specifically allocated for upgrades to City Park, which will remain in place regardless of the tournament’s future. LIV Golf is expected to return $1.2 million in state incentive funds.

“First, we want to thank Zurich and PGA Tour leadership for another outstanding tournament this past weekend,” Governor Landry and Secretary Bourgeois said in their joint statement. “We are proud of the continued partnership and the opportunities this event brings to our state each year. We appreciate LIV’s good-faith efforts and look forward to maintaining our partnership as we continue conversations around an event later this year. We are grateful for the work of our local partners and the collaboration that supported this effort. Louisiana continues to move forward with strong momentum and we remain focused on opportunities that deliver value for our communities.”

LIV Golf characterized the postponement as a “strategic decision,” stating it would allow them to avoid the peak summer heat and a crowded global sports calendar, while also ensuring the course is in optimal condition. The statement was provided to the Associated Press.

The postponement comes amid reports that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), the primary financial backer of LIV Golf, is considering withdrawing its funding. These reports surfaced earlier in April, raising concerns about the league’s long-term viability. The New Orleans tournament was moved to the bottom of LIV Golf’s schedule on its website, with no new date listed.

Louisiana had initially committed approximately $7 million to host the LIV Golf event, including $5 million for hosting fees. The state’s willingness to work with LIV Golf on a potential fall event suggests continued interest in attracting the league to New Orleans, despite the current financial uncertainties.

Secretary Bourgeois spoke with LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil on Friday and was informed of the organization’s desire to postpone the June event to explore a potential event this fall.

The planned tournament at Bayou Oaks at City Park was intended to be a significant event for the city of New Orleans, offering economic benefits and showcasing the region to a global audience. The postponement represents a setback for those plans, but officials remain optimistic about the possibility of a future event.

As of Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the future of LIV Golf remains uncertain. The league has not responded to requests for further comment regarding the financial concerns or the potential rescheduling of the New Orleans tournament.
