Health officials in Boston have confirmed that a person infected with measles traveled through Logan International Airport last week, potentially exposing others to the highly contagious virus. The Boston Public Health Commission reported that the individual arrived on JetBlue flight 470 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Monday, April 13, 2026, and was present in Terminal C shortly after midnight on Tuesday, April 14. Anyone who spent time in that area between 12:00 a.m. And 2:30 a.m. On April 14 may have been exposed.

The infected individual left Logan Airport in a privately owned vehicle and traveled out of state, with no other known exposure points identified in Boston at this time. Health officials are working to identify and notify anyone who may have been in contact with the virus during that time frame.

Unvaccinated individuals who may have been exposed are urged to contact their healthcare provider immediately and monitor for symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. They should also avoid public places, including schools, workplaces, public transit, and stores, for 21 days following potential exposure — through May 5, 2026 — to prevent further spread.

Measles is a serious respiratory illness that can lead to complications such as pneumonia, and encephalitis. The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine is up to 97% effective at preventing measles infection and protecting against severe disease. Health officials emphasized that vaccinated individuals are at low risk of contracting measles, even if exposed.

In Suffolk County, 94% of children have been fully vaccinated against measles, according to Massachusetts Department of Public Health data. Officials noted that it is not too late for unvaccinated adults and older children to receive the MMR vaccine, and they encourage anyone unsure of their immunization status to get at least one dose.

The Boston Public Health Commission stated that the number of confirmed measles cases among Massachusetts residents this year remains unchanged at two. This case underscores the continued importance of maintaining high vaccination rates to prevent outbreaks and protect community health.

Dr. Bisola Ojikutu, Boston’s public health commissioner, said in a statement that the MMR vaccine is the best tool available to prevent measles infection and also provides protection against mumps and rubella. She urged the public to ensure they are up to date on vaccinations to safeguard themselves and their communities from serious illness.
