MacArthur vs. Jay Mustangs: District 28-5A High School Baseball

Jody Medina, the head baseball coach at MacArthur High School, has been placed on administrative leave. North East Independent School District (NEISD) athletic director Jay Govan confirmed the status of the coach on April 13, 2026.

Govan stated that the school district is currently conducting an internal investigation. While he did not disclose the specific details of the matter, Govan noted that Medina has been on leave since the week preceding April 13, 2026.

There is currently no established timetable for the conclusion of the internal investigation.

Aubrey Chancellor, the communications director for North East ISD, stated that the district is unable to reveal further details because the situation is a personnel matter.

On April 9, 2026, MacArthur High School principal Joaquin Hernandez sent a letter to parents to inform them of the change in leadership for the varsity baseball team.

In an effort to keep you informed of happenings at MacArthur High School, I am writing to inform you that our varsity baseball head coach will be away from the team for the foreseeable future. During this time, our coaching staff and campus administration are working closely together to ensure that our student-athletes continue to receive strong leadership, support, and guidance. We are committed to maintaining consistency in practices, preparation, and competition as we move forward.

Joaquin Hernandez

Hernandez stated that the team’s assistant coaches will assume the head coaching duties for the remainder of the period. He noted that these individuals have worked with the team throughout the season and are experienced baseball coaches.

The campus administration indicated that they are dedicated to helping the team finish the season strong. MacArthur competes in District 28-5A.
