Minister of Culture Fadli Zon called for the strengthening of the Kasepuhan Palace in Cirebon, West Java, as a center for cultural education during a visit to the site on April 3, 2026.
During the visit, Zon emphasized the need to modernize the exhibition layout of the Museum Pusaka and revive its historical narratives to better engage the public. According to a statement issued on April 3, 2026, the minister believes that improving storytelling and presentation will allow younger generations to experience the transformation of culture and architecture from the 15th century to the present day.
Zon described the collection housed within the Museum Pusaka as extensive and remarkable, noting that the palace’s historical narrative serves as a national asset. While he stated that the museum is already relatively good
, he identified specific areas for improvement to make the experience more engaging.
It only needs improvements in storytelling and exhibition arrangement, especially lighting, to make the narrative stronger and more engaging.

Historical Significance of Kasepuhan Palace
Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Raja Adipati Sultan Sepuh XV Luqman Zulkaedin welcomed the minister’s visit and provided historical context regarding the site. The palace is approximately 600 years old and was founded by Sunan Gunung Jati.

Sultan Sepuh XV noted that the Cirebon Sultanate is a continuation of the Pajajaran Kingdom. This lineage makes the Kasepuhan Palace older than the palaces located in Surakarta, and Yogyakarta.
The palace complex covers an area of approximately 25 hectares. The perimeter is defined by brick walls that were constructed by Prince Cakrabuana.
Palace Architecture and Structures
The complex contains several significant architectural structures that contribute to its historical and cultural value, including:
- The Museum Pusaka, which houses the palace’s extensive collections.
- Siti Inggil.
- The Candi Bentar gate.
- The main palace building.
Minister Zon stated that with deeper literacy and more dynamic presentation
, the palace can better serve its role in educating the public on Indonesia’s architectural and cultural evolution.
Following the minister’s visit and recommendations, the palace is expected to increase its relevance as a primary center for educational and cultural activities in the region, as reported by ANTARA News.
