Ødegaard: Arsenal’s Past Failures Fuel Current Drive
Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard acknowledged that the team’s recent near misses in the Premier league weigh on the players, but insists they serve as motivation to finally secure the title. The comments came after Arsenal’s 3-2 home defeat against Manchester United on January 25, 2026.
Ødegaard echoed manager Mikel Arteta’s emphasis on focusing on the present and ignoring external pressure. However, he conceded that finishing as runners-up for three consecutive seasons – 2023, 2024, and 2025 – is a factor in the team’s mindset.
“It’s definitely something we think about,” Ødegaard said, according to The Guardian. “But it’s not something that haunts us.It’s more something that motivates us to go all the way this time.”
Arsenal currently sits in fourth place in the Premier League table as of January 26,2026.
