A 36-year-old pregnant woman, Regan Cole-Graham, died on Saturday, February 1, 2026, after being struck by a car while riding an electric bike with her family in the Playa del Rey neighborhood of Los Angeles. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. On Pershing Drive near Manchester Avenue.
Cole-Graham was seven months pregnant and expecting a baby girl, according to friends and family. She is survived by her husband and two young sons. She was described by those who knew her as a loving, funny and dedicated mother, wife, and friend. “So full of love and light and she just exuded love in everything she did,” said Ashley Saglie, a friend of the deceased. “She was the best mom; she made those babies feel so loved.” Another friend described her as “absolutely lovely and a wonderful mom and a wonderful person,” adding, “She was so funny… It’s just really heartbreaking.”
At the time of the collision, Cole-Graham was riding with her 3-year-old son in a seat on the bicycle. Her husband and another son were also riding alongside them. An 87-year-old driver in a Toyota Camry struck Cole-Graham from behind, causing her to be thrown onto the roadway. The vehicle continued forward, rolling over her, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Both Cole-Graham and her 3-year-old son were transported to a local hospital. While hospital staff were able to deliver Cole-Graham’s baby, the infant did not survive, family members reported. The toddler is expected to survive, though authorities have not released an update on his condition.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police have stated that neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have been factors in the crash. A witness, Yuda Zweda, reported that the driver expressed concern for Cole-Graham’s well-being, stating, “The only thing he really said, ‘Please pray that she survives.’”
The intersection where the collision occurred has been described by residents as dimly lit and dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists. Concerns have been raised about the need for improved lighting and an expanded bike path. “I think a lot needs to change. I think there needs to be better lighting, I think there needs to be an expanded bike path,” Saglie said.
The family’s attorney has stated that the incident should not have happened, emphasizing that Cole-Graham and her family members were all wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
The LAPD West Traffic detectives are continuing their investigation and are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at (213) 473-0234.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Cole-Graham’s family and help cover funeral expenses.
CBS LA has reached out to Councilwoman Traci Park’s office for comment regarding the incident and the safety of the intersection, but has not yet received a response as of today, .
