PSV Eindhoven have been crowned Dutch champions for the 27th time in the club’s history, securing the Eredivisie title on April 5, 2026. The Eindhoven side clinched the championship with five matches remaining in the season, marking their third consecutive league title.

The title was mathematically secured following a 0-0 draw between second-placed Feyenoord and Volendam on April 5, 2026. The result left PSV with an unassailable 17-point lead at the top of the table, as there were only 15 points left to play for in the season. PSV currently holds 71 points, while Feyenoord trails with 54.

A Record-Breaking Campaign

Under the management of Peter Bosz, PSV became the earliest champions in the history of the Dutch league. In doing so, they broke a record that had stood since 1978, a milestone previously held by PSV themselves.

The team dominated the 2025/26 campaign from the outset, winning 15 of the first 17 games and establishing an 11-point lead by the halfway mark of the season. Between September 27, 2025, and January 17, 2026, the club maintained a 13-game winning streak.

During this run, PSV also established a new record for the most consecutive away wins in the Eredivisie, racking up 14 victories on the road.

The Path to the Title

PSV took a significant step toward the trophy on April 4, 2026, with a 4-3 victory against Utrecht. The match was decided by a goal from winger Couhaib Driouech, who was born in 2002.

Despite the dominant season, the path was not without obstacles. PSV suffered a shocking 3-2 defeat in Eindhoven against NEC Nijmegen on March 14, 2026, and experienced a tumble in the Dutch Cup semifinal in late February 2026.

The club’s dominance was further highlighted by a 3-0 victory over Feyenoord on February 1, 2026, which dealt a severe blow to their closest rivals’ hopes.

Key Contributors and Squad Impact

The championship victory was heavily supported by the offensive output of Ismael Saibari, who served as PSV’s top scorer in the Eredivisie with 14 goals. He was surpassed in the league scoring charts only by Feyenoord’s Ayase Ueda.

Bosz’s squad also benefited from the experience of former Serie A players. Ivan Perisic, previously of Inter Milan, was cited as one of the team’s best performers. Denis Man joined the club from Parma in August 2025 for a fee of just under €9 million.

League Context and Implications

PSV’s third successive title is a feat the club has not achieved since 2008. This latest victory ensures their place in the Champions League league phase for the following season.

The result underscores a shift in the Dutch football landscape. Feyenoord, managed by Robin van Persie, finished as runners-up. They were the previous champions in 2023 under Arne Slot. Meanwhile, Ajax currently sits fifth in the standings and has not lifted the trophy in four years.

The title race concluded with PSV holding a superior goal difference of +42 compared to Feyenoord’s +22, further emphasizing the gap between the champions and the rest of the league.
