Benson, 58, of Ravenswood, was taken into custody on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, after investigators determined she made multiple personal purchases using a city-issued credit card. The alleged fraudulent activity was first reported on February 17, 2026, prompting the Ravenswood city administration to refer the matter to state police.
According to court records and police statements, Benson faces one count of credit card fraud and 19 counts of computer fraud. The total value of the unauthorized purchases made with the municipal credit card is approximately $1,600. She was arraigned in Jackson County Magistrate Court and released after posting a $25,000 bond.
Investigators said the fraudulent transactions included purchases from online retailers such as Amazon, with items ranging from luggage and clothing to household supplies and wellness products. A search warrant executed on an Amazon account linked to Benson revealed additional purchases dating back to 2022, including fitness equipment, personal care items, and a vacation package associated with Hilton Grand Vacations.
