The Rhode Island House of Representatives has passed a formal resolution expressing its deepest condolences on the passing of Raymond A. Choiniere, who died at the age of 85.

House Resolution H8440 was introduced and adopted on April 14, 2026, during the 2026 Regular Session. The resolution honors Mr. Choiniere’s life of service, dedication, and compassion, and directs the Secretary of State to send a certified copy of the expression of sympathy to his family.

Raymond A. Choiniere was born on October 1, 1940, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Arthur and Alice Choiniere (née McCartney). He was an all-state athlete in both football and baseball while attending Warwick Veterans Memorial High School.

His athletic achievements continued into college, and his performance led to a tryout with the Boston Red Sox.

The resolution describes Mr. Choiniere as a kind and generous individual who was devoted to his family.

He was predeceased by his sister, Jeanne Harrington, and four brothers: Arthur, Edward, Robert, and Jon Choiniere.

The resolution was sponsored by ten members of the House of Representatives: Joe Shekarchi, Stephen Casey, Michael Chippendale, Jay Edwards, Kathleen Fogarty, Katie Kazarian, Brian Kennedy, Joseph McNamara, Scott Slater, and Joseph Solomon.
