The House of Representatives passed legislation on Thursday, february 8, 2024, to reinstate these subsidies, but the bill faces opposition in the Senate.

The ACA, signed into law on March 23, 2010, provides financial assistance to help individuals and families purchase health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace. These subsidies, in the form of tax credits, lower monthly premiums based on income. Enhanced subsidies were temporarily expanded under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, preventing meaningful premium increases for many enrollees. when these enhanced subsidies expired on December 31, 2023, premiums rose substantially for those not eligible for other forms of assistance.
