33% of companies in Latvia are hindered in implementing data and dialog technologies (ICT) due to a lack of digital skills among employees, according to a survey conducted by electronic and communication service provider “Bite Latvija”.
This is more than in 2024, when 31% of surveyed entrepreneurs mentioned this obstacle. companies in the manufacturing,trade,and service sectors,as well as large companies with 250 or more employees,most frequently enough recognize this as a very hindering aspect. In addition, 13% of respondents indicated that they are deterred by a lack of competent specialists who could implement and maintain such solutions. Employee training, regularly updating knowledge, is the only way to break out of this vicious cycle.
Another notable obstacle to ICT implementation is the large amount of investment needed – the costs of implementing and maintaining high technology were cited as a hindering factor by 20% of company managers in 2025, which is less than in 2024, when 22% indicated this. Although the indicator is gradually decreasing and companies are increasingly aware of how important it is to invest in digital development,the financial burden is still notably felt in small and medium-sized businesses,where digitalization is often implemented slowly or postponed.
