Škoda Auto is rolling out a suite of upgrades for its popular electric models, the Elroq and Enyaq, set to begin production around mid-2026. These enhancements, driven in part by customer feedback, range from practical additions like a “frunk” – a front luggage compartment – to sophisticated driver-assistance systems and improved lighting functionality.

Enhanced Driver Assistance and Safety

The updates place a significant emphasis on driver safety and convenience. Škoda’s Travel Assist 3.0 package will feature upgraded sensors, including new radar units, promising smoother and more natural responses during assisted driving. A new interior camera, positioned within the rearview mirror housing, will monitor driver attention and detect fatigue through eye-tracking technology. This builds on existing driver monitoring systems and reflects a broader industry trend toward prioritizing driver well-being and reducing accidents.

Beyond the Travel Assist package, Škoda is also introducing an automatic lighting function that goes beyond simple light/dark detection. The system now recognizes twilight conditions, activating rear lights in overcast weather or during dawn and dusk, providing increased visibility and safety for drivers and other road users. This seemingly small detail demonstrates Škoda’s focus on refining everyday usability.

Practical Innovations and Connectivity

Responding to customer demand, Škoda is adding a 21-liter “frunk” to both the Elroq and Enyaq. This compartment, located under the bonnet, is designed for storing charging cables and other items, maximizing storage space and accessibility. The addition of the frunk aligns with a growing trend among EV manufacturers to optimize storage solutions in vehicles with limited engine compartments.

The Elroq and Enyaq will also receive an upgraded Android-based infotainment system, featuring a redesigned home screen, grid layout, and enhanced personalization options. This upgrade is exclusive to newly produced vehicles, leveraging an upgraded onboard platform. The company is also implementing Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing drivers to power external appliances directly from the vehicle, either through the charging port or a built-in 230V socket. This feature, increasingly common in EVs, expands the vehicle’s utility beyond transportation.

Market Position and Future Outlook

These updates come as Škoda’s electric models continue to gain traction in the European market. In 2025, the Elroq ranked as Europe’s second best-selling electric vehicle, with over 95,300 deliveries, and secured the German Car of the Year 2026 award. The Enyaq followed as the seventh best-selling EV, with nearly 80,000 units sold. Škoda’s success in the EV market is particularly notable in countries like the Czech Republic, Denmark, and the Netherlands, where the Elroq leads EV sales.

Looking ahead, the rollout of these updates in mid-2026 will be a key moment for Škoda. The company’s ability to integrate customer feedback and deliver practical innovations will be crucial for maintaining its competitive edge in the rapidly evolving EV landscape. The enhanced driver-assistance systems and improved connectivity features are likely to be major selling points, appealing to a broader range of consumers. Industry observers will be watching to see how these updates impact sales figures and further solidify Škoda’s position as a leading EV manufacturer in Europe.
