Snohomish County Sports Tourism Reaches Record Heights in 2025
Snohomish County experienced a banner year for sports tourism in 2025, generating an estimated $42 million in economic impact. The success, fueled by over 150 tournaments and events, drew more than 230,000 visitors to the region and resulted in nearly 43,000 room nights booked, according to the Snohomish County Sports Commission.
The year also marked a record for the number of sports hosted, with a diverse range of 37 different competitions taking place across 12 communities within the county. Snohomish County itself hosted a record 14 tournaments, signaling a growing reputation as a premier sports destination.
A number of inaugural events contributed to the record-breaking year. These included Quadballfest, the Seattle Ignite Robotics competition, the Quantum Spooktacular, the Tulalip March Madness Basketball Tournament, the Seattle Handball Cup, Nitro Circus’ “Off The Rails” World Tour, the USA Artistic Swimming Rising Star Camp, and the Battle of the Flags flag football tournament. The success of these first-time events underscores the county’s ability to attract new and varied sporting competitions.
The county’s appeal isn’t solely based on new events, however. A strong foundation of annual tournaments continues to draw athletes and spectators year after year. Popular returning events include the Everett 3on3 basketball tournament presented by Boeing, the Harvey Cup, the Lake Stevens Pickleball Classic, Fairfest 3on3 basketball, the Candyland Gymnastics Invitational, the Ice Fest Skating Competition, EnduroCross, and Spartan races. These established events provide a consistent economic boost and contribute to the county’s growing sports tourism profile.
The Snohomish County Sports Commission doesn’t operate in isolation. The organization actively collaborates with local partners, including Perfect Game Northwest Baseball, USA Softball of Seattle, the National Softball Association of Washington, the Snohomish Youth Soccer Club, Kayak Point Disc Golf, DieHard RC Family Park, and DYSports LLC. These partnerships are crucial in hosting both annual tournaments and regular weekend events, maximizing the county’s exposure and economic benefits.
Adding to the county’s accolades, the Washington State Scholastic Esports Association’s (WSSEA) 2025 Spring State Championships was recognized with a Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism award, presented by Sports Destination Management. This recognition highlights the growing importance of esports as a significant contributor to the sports tourism landscape.
The WSSEA championship, hosted for the first time in Snohomish County at the Lynnwood Event Center, brought together 204 high school students representing 32 schools across Washington State. Competitions were held in Rocket League, Valorant, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The event also featured a College Fair and Career Fair, expanding its impact beyond the competitive arena. The one-day championship generated $142,364 in direct spending, demonstrating the economic potential of scholastic esports.
Jake Voss, WSSEA Executive Director, expressed his honor at receiving the award, stating, “We’re honored to be recognized as a Champion in Innovation in Sports Tourism alongside organizations that understand the transformative power of competitive events.”
The success of Snohomish County’s sports tourism initiatives is a testament to the region’s commitment to attracting and hosting a diverse range of events. The combination of established tournaments, successful inaugural events, and strong partnerships positions the county for continued growth and economic impact in the years to come. The county’s ability to adapt and embrace emerging sports like esports further solidifies its position as a leading sports destination.
