An 18-year-old TikTok creator known as Swhileyy sparked a viral trend by running through a Church of Scientology building in Los Angeles while wearing Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, amassing over 90 million views on his original video posted March 31st.
The video, filmed using the smart glasses’ built-in camera, showed Swhileyy jogging through the lobby, down a hallway and flight of stairs, ducking under a staff member’s arm and exiting the building in under a minute. He described the act as “exploring the building” and stated he was never asked not to return.
What began as a single stunt evolved into a broader trend dubbed “deep runs,” with other users attempting to replicate the feat at Scientology locations. Swhileyy told The Hollywood Reporter he did not encourage others to imitate the run, despite labeling his video as the “deepest recorded Scientology run,” which he acknowledged could be interpreted as promoting the activity.
He expressed concern that the trend had escalated beyond his intentions, citing incidents where copycats engaged in disruptive or destructive behavior, including one instance in Palm Springs, Florida, where a participant allegedly shot out a church window with a BB gun, resulting in an arrest.
Swhileyy said he no longer recognizes the trend as something he started and wants it to stop, emphasizing that he never promoted running through the buildings or breaking records in any video, comment section, or public statement.
The Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating the trend due to public safety and trespassing concerns, although Swhileyy maintains he did not break any laws during his original run.
The Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, which enable hands-free video recording and live streaming, were central to how the footage was captured and shared. The incident has drawn attention to the privacy and ethical implications of wearable AI-powered cameras in public and private spaces.
As wearable technology becomes more integrated with social media platforms like TikTok, cases like this highlight the potential for unintended consequences when device capabilities intersect with viral challenges and real-world actions.
