L3Harris Seeks Systems Engineering Manager in Salt Lake City

L3Harris Technologies is seeking an experienced Systems Engineering Manager to lead a team in Salt Lake City, Utah. The position, within the Aerial Networks business area, will involve both managerial responsibilities and direct technical contributions to projects.

The company, described as the “Trusted Disruptor” in defense tech, emphasizes a commitment to its employees, customers, and communities. L3Harris focuses on delivering end-to-end technology solutions across space, air, land, sea, and cyber domains, with a focus on national security.

The Systems Engineering Manager will oversee a team of approximately 8-15 Systems Engineers, providing technical leadership for the CDL Core team. The role also requires active participation as a Project or Systems Engineer on Production, Sustainment, or Development contracts.

According to the job description, the manager will be responsible for the full lifecycle support of data link systems – including line-of-sight wideband, narrowband, and/or SATCOM – from initial concept through to product retirement. This encompasses proposal support, requirements analysis and management, task planning utilizing methods like EVMS and IMS, technical project management assistance, design synthesis, technical documentation, design oversight, build and test support, subcontractor control, risk management, and ongoing in-house technical support.

Essential functions for the role include demonstrated leadership experience in engineering development or program management, and a proven ability to lead major development proposal efforts. Key competencies include personnel management and team building, the ability to recruit and retain engineering talent, understanding of business development processes, strong planning and organizational skills, and familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations Supplement (DFARS), and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

A deep understanding of Military Standard Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) – encompassing design, implementation, manufacturing transition, and maintenance – is also required. The position demands qualitative and quantitative risk analysis skills, in-depth knowledge of advanced communication systems, and strong written and oral communication abilities. Occasional travel is expected, and the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance, with a preference for Top Secret, is necessary.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of nine years of prior related experience, or a Graduate Degree with at least seven years of experience. Alternatively, a minimum of thirteen years of related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. An active Secret security clearance is a requirement.

Preferred qualifications include a minimum of two years of prior or current management/project leadership experience, along with seven or more years of related engineering experience. Proficiency in engineering architecture and design concepts, understanding of DoD system development processes, and experience utilizing Earned Value (EVMS) methods for project management are also highly desirable.

Additional preferred skills include experience providing engineering support for production programs, implementing manufacturing process improvements, understanding of NSA cryptographic certification requirements, familiarity with Common Data Link (CDL) specifications, effective coordination of projects, understanding of DoD acquisition practices, strong requirements management skills using tools like DOORS, and the ability to contribute effectively as part of a team.

L3Harris Technologies is an Equal Opportunity Employer and maintains a drug-free workplace, conducting pre-employment substance abuse testing and background checks where legally permitted.
