The Outreach Program Donates 100,000 Meals to Local Organizations in Union, Iowa

The Outreach Program, a nonprofit based in Union, Iowa, distributed 100,000 meals this month to local organizations, including Des Moines Public Schools, Des Moines Refugee Support, Joppa, the Des Moines Area Religious Council and the Iowa National Guard Warrior & Family Services Branch.

The meals were assembled during community meal packing events to be distributed to vulnerable populations such as students, refugees, low-income families and service members.

Distribution was facilitated through established community partners.

The Outreach Program focuses on providing meals both locally and globally.

Founded by Floyd Hammer and Kathy Hamilton, the nonprofit is aiming to pack one billion meals by the end of the year, according to a news release.

The organization’s mission is to address food insecurity and to empower people and communities by connecting individuals and organizations with volunteer engagement opportunities to provide safe water, nutritious food, medical care, and education to those in need at home and abroad.

Based in Union, IA, The Outreach Program is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation.

Nearly twenty years after its founding following a trip to Nkungi, Tanzania in 2004, the organization has grown from a small seed into a globally trusted leader, now providing food, clean water, medical care, and education to thousands throughout Tanzania and the United States.

The Outreach Program’s Four Promises include feeding the hungry, providing clean water, delivering medical care, and supporting education in the communities it serves.
