The Outreach Program, a nonprofit based in Union, Iowa, distributed 100,000 meals this month to local organizations, including Des Moines Public Schools, Des Moines Refugee Support, Joppa, the Des Moines Area Religious Council and the Iowa National Guard Warrior & Family Services Branch.
The meals were assembled during community meal packing events to be distributed to vulnerable populations such as students, refugees, low-income families and service members.

Founded by Floyd Hammer and Kathy Hamilton, the nonprofit is aiming to pack one billion meals by the end of the year, according to a news release.
