The U.S. State Department is preparing a limited release of commemorative U.S. Passports featuring a picture of President Donald Trump, marking the upcoming celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. This initiative will make Trump the first living president to be featured in the travel document.
According to reports from the Associated Press, Fox News, and the BBC, between 25,000 and 30,000 of these special passports will be available to applicants at the Washington, D.C., passport office shortly before July 4th. The commemorative passports will include customized artwork and imagery related to America’s founding, alongside Trump’s portrait and signature.
Commemorative Design Details
The design of the commemorative passport includes a rendering of Trump’s image on the inside cover, accompanied by his signature and the Declaration of Independence. Another page will depict a scene of the Founding Fathers signing the 1776 document, all set against a background of the American flag. The back cover will feature a rendering of the flag with “250” centered within a 13-star circle.
State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated, “As the United States celebrates America’s 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. Passports to commemorate this historic occasion.” Pigott further explained that these passports will maintain the same security features as standard U.S. Passports.
Availability and Options for Applicants
The anniversary passports will be the default document issued to individuals applying in person at the Washington Passport Agency. However, applicants who prefer a standard passport will still have the option of applying online or at locations outside of Washington, D.C. There will be no additional fee for receiving the commemorative passport.

This move is the latest in a series of instances where Trump’s name and likeness have been added to various tributes. Efforts are also underway to include Trump’s signature on all new U.S. Paper currency, a first for a sitting president, and to feature his image on a gold commemorative coin celebrating the country’s founding.
The State Department confirmed the plans after the concept, including the rendering of Trump’s image, had been under consideration for several months.
