President Donald Trump expanded threats on Monday, April 6, 2026, to target all power plants and bridges in Iran if the country does not meet a deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The ultimatum requires Tehran to reach a deal to reopen the waterway by Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET.

Military Strikes and Casualties

The expanded threats followed a wave of attacks carried out by the United States and Israel on Monday, April 6, 2026. These strikes resulted in the deaths of more than 25 people in Iran.

One of the military strikes targeted an information and communication technology building located at the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran.

Simultaneously, Iran launched a missile attack on Haifa. The Israeli military reported that four people were found dead at the site of the missile strike. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his condolences to the victims of the attack on Monday, April 6, 2026.

The president also addressed concerns regarding the legality of targeting civilian infrastructure. Experts have suggested that the threatened destruction of power plants could be considered a war crime. When questioned about these possibilities on Monday, April 6, 2026, Trump stated he is not at all concerned about committing possible war crimes.

International Reactions

The rhetoric from the U.S. Administration has drawn alarm from the international community. A spokesperson for United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated on Monday, April 6, 2026, that the Secretary-General is alarmed by a social media post from President Trump.

The post in question threatened American attacks on bridges, power plants, and other infrastructure if Iran failed to agree to a deal.

The current escalation centers on the Tuesday, April 7, 2026, deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with the U.S. Administration indicating that the scope of potential targets has widened to include all Iranian energy plants and critical bridges.
