The patient (Umm Majd – Sudanese – 65 years old) has been suffering from breast cancer for approximately three years, and needs chemotherapy, medications, and periodic follow-ups at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City Hospital in Abu Dhabi. However, her husband’s financial conditions do not allow him to cover the cost of renewing her health insurance card, in order to benefit from the exemption program for cancer patients.

The patient needs 19 thousand dirhams to renew the card, so that she can continue receiving treatment.

The husband appealed to charitable people to help him pay the amount required to renew his health insurance card, due to his fear that his wife’s life would be in danger.

A medical report issued by Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City Hospital, a copy of which was obtained by Emirates Today, confirmed that stopping the patient from treatment puts her at risk, and stated that the patient suffers from breast cancer and is receiving treatment in the hospital, adding that she needs to renew her health insurance card, to continue receiving treatment for the disease.

Abu Majd tells the story of his wife’s suffering with the disease, saying: “She suffered from pain in the chest area and a high fever about three years ago. We did not know the cause. When she noticed a lump in the left breast, we felt very concerned about her, so I took her to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City Hospital to conduct tests on her and ensure her safety.”

He continued: “I told the concerned doctor in the emergency department about my wife’s complaint of chest pains, so he asked her to stay in the hospital to conduct some tests and analyzes for her, and he decided to give her some painkillers to control the fever and relieve the pain.”

The husband added: “While my wife was in the hospital, her health condition stabilized, but the results of the x-ray showed that she had a tumor on the left side of the chest, and the doctor told us that she needed special treatment, medications, and periodic follow-ups.” Abu Majd continued: “I was able to manage the cost of treatment with the help of the health insurance she had, but its validity period has finally expired, while I am currently unable to continue paying the cost of her treatment, or renewing her health insurance card, as a result of the deterioration of my financial situation.”

He explained that he works in a private company with a salary of 10,000 dirhams, and that he is the sole breadwinner for his family members, which includes his elderly parents, whom he brought from Sudan to live with him, due to the poor living and financial conditions there.

He continued: “I feel very sad about my wife’s condition, because I cannot pay the costs of her treatment, or renew her health insurance card, while I see her health condition getting worse.”

He said that he asked for help from family and friends, but their conditions are no less bad than his situation, calling on good people and people with compassionate hearts to extend giving hands to him to help him manage the costs of renewing his life partner’s health insurance card and save her life from danger.
