The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) softball team defeated the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Wolf Pack 5-3 in the first game of a three-game Mountain West series on May 1, 2026.

The victory served as a milestone for the Rebels’ head coach, marking her 400th career win and her 250th victory while leading the UNLV program.

Following the result, UNLV and UNR are now tied for second place in the Mountain West league standings. Both programs have already secured positions in the Mountain West Softball Championships.

Game Performance and Highlights

The Rebels’ offense was supported by a team-high nine walks during the contest. Individually, player Chavez continued a strong streak, extending a run of reaching base in 11 consecutive games, contributing to a larger 20-game streak.

The matchup was part of the Silver State Series presented by America First, a regional rivalry between the two Nevada institutions.

Series Context

The series, which began on April 30 and concludes on May 2, 2026, serves as the final regular-season series for the Rebels. The games are being held as part of a Senior Weekend celebration at UNLV.

Entering the series, the UNR Wolf Pack held an overall record of 36-15 and a 16-6 record within the Mountain West conference.
