UNLV Tennis Sweeps Mountain West Weekly Honors

LAS VEGAS – UNLV men’s tennis sophomore Ilia Snitari and freshman Marko Maksimovic have been recognized by the Mountain West Conference as Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively, the league announced Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

Snitari, a native of Kishinev, Moldova, currently holds a record of 17-1 on the season and 25-1 overall as a Rebel. He secured the Player of the Week honor after a dominant performance against No. 21 USC on Sunday in Los Angeles, defeating Trojan’s top singles competitor Nathan Trouve in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. He also teamed with Arda Karakas to win their doubles match against USC’s Andrin Casanova and Jack McCarthy, 7-5.

This is Snitari’s second Player of the Week award this season and the third of his career. He is currently ranked 44th nationally and is an All-American.

Maksimovic, making his collegiate debut against the 21st-ranked Trojans, also contributed to UNLV’s strong showing. He partnered with Illia Maksymchuk to win a crucial doubles match against Trouve and Connor Church, 7-6 in a tiebreaker, clinching the doubles point for the Rebels. In singles play, the Belgrade, Serbia native defeated Jack McCarthy at the No. 2 spot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Despite the strong individual performances, UNLV ultimately fell to USC 4-3, though the team scored its most points against the 21-time national champions in 18 all-time meetings.

The Rebels will return to action on Friday, hosting Idaho State. Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. At the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Admission to all home matches is free.

Also earning Mountain West weekly honors were San Diego State senior Jo-Yee Chan, named Women’s Tennis Player of the Week and Utah State freshman Terezia Mlkva, selected as the Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
