Venezuelan author Ariana Godoy is experiencing a surge in success as her young adult romance novel, Sigue Mi Voz (Follow My Voice), makes its debut on Prime Video. The project marks a significant milestone for Godoy, who first gained a following by self-publishing her work on the digital platform Wattpad.
Godoy’s journey from independent online author to streaming platform success highlights a growing trend of Hispanic authors gaining visibility in the U.S. Market. “The greater visibility of Hispanic authors” is what Godoy says this project represents, according to reports.
Follow My Voice initially accumulated nearly 38.5 million reads on Wattpad, attracting the attention of Simon & Schuster and ultimately leading to its adaptation for Prime Video. Godoy, now residing in North Carolina, sees this as a testament to the evolving publishing landscape. “The industry has changed a lot,” she observes, noting that it “used to be a little more closed, intense.”
This isn’t Godoy’s first foray into screen adaptations. She previously saw a trilogy of films based on her novels – A través de mi ventana (Through My Window), A través del mar (Through the Sea), and A través de tu mirada (Through Your Eyes) – released on Netflix in 2022, 2023, and 2024 respectively. The success of these films paved the way for Follow My Voice and further solidified her presence in the streaming world.
The release of Sigue Mi Voz comes at a time when the romance genre is experiencing a significant boom in the publishing industry. Sales have more than doubled since 2021, reaching over 51 million units in 2025, according to data from Circana, a market analysis firm. Godoy believes this surge in popularity is driven by a desire for escapism. “I think we look for that escape from (saying): ‘OK, the real world is a little crazy, I’m going to read my romance,’” she explains.
Beyond the romance, Follow My Voice tackles the important theme of mental health, centering on Klara, a teenager grappling with agoraphobia who finds connection with Kang, a radio host. Godoy intentionally incorporated this element into the story, drawing from her own experiences with mental health challenges. “My only objective was also to get a lot of the experience I had with my mental health crises,” she shared, recalling her own struggles in 2009 and 2010, a time when conversations around mental health were less prevalent.
Godoy’s story is particularly notable given her initial difficulties finding a traditional publishing route. She began writing in 2009 and faced rejection from numerous publishers before finding success on Wattpad, where she now boasts over two million followers and has amassed over 850 million total reads across her more than 20 published works. This experience underscores the power of direct engagement with readers and the changing dynamics of the publishing industry.
However, Godoy acknowledges that breaking into the English-language market remains a challenge for Latin American authors. “The gigantic and the amount of writers and books that come out here is what makes it a little more difficult, to be noticed, to have your book seen, to be a novelty that lasts at least a little while in bookstores,” she said. She describes the U.S. Market as “a little more complex” in this regard.
Despite these hurdles, Godoy’s success demonstrates the growing demand for diverse voices and stories in the entertainment landscape. Her journey from Wattpad to Prime Video is a testament to the power of online platforms to connect authors with audiences and the increasing recognition of Hispanic talent in the global streaming market. The success of Sigue Mi Voz and her previous adaptations signal a promising future for Godoy and a broader shift towards greater inclusivity in the entertainment industry.
