Montreal Victoire secured a 3-2 overtime victory over the Boston Fleet on Friday night, extending their points streak to 16 games and clinching home ice advantage for the first round of the Professional Women’s Hockey League playoffs.
Nicole Gosling scored the winning goal 38 seconds into overtime on a power play, taking the puck at the top of the circle and firing a wrist shot past Boston goaltender Abbey Levy. The power play opportunity arose after the Fleet were penalized at the end of regulation.
Jade Downie-Landry and Kaitlin Willoughby also found the net for Montreal, while Ann-Renee Desbiens made 26 saves in goal. For Boston, Jessie Eldridge and Daniela Pejsova scored, with Levy stopping 28 shots.
The Victoire improved to 16-5-2-5 on the season, maintaining their position at the top of the PWHL standings. The victory marked their 14th win during the current points streak, which includes two overtime losses.
Boston remains second in the league, two points behind Montreal, with both teams having two games remaining in the regular season. The Fleet are scheduled to host Ottawa on Wednesday night, while Montreal will travel to face Vancouver on Tuesday.
