Virginia Suzanne Clough, Lifelong Traveler and Beloved Family Member, Dies at 79
Savannah, GA – – Virginia Suzanne Clough, a woman whose life was marked by resilience, adventure, and a deep love for her family, passed away peacefully at the age of 79. Born , in Savannah, Georgia, she battled debilitating medical conditions, including Alzheimer’s, for many years, exceeding expectations with her unwavering spirit.
Suzanne, the daughter of Cornelia and Malcolm Arnsdorff, grew up in Savannah alongside her two older brothers, Malcolm Jr. And Charles. Her early life was filled with the simple joys and adventures of childhood, laying the foundation for a life characterized by curiosity and a zest for exploration.
A pivotal moment arrived in 1967 when Suzanne met Ray Clough, an Air Force Sergeant, while visiting friends in Savannah. Their connection was immediate and profound. As recounted by those who knew them, it was a case of love at first sight. Ray was captivated by Suzanne’s openness, laughter, and striking blue eyes, while she was drawn to his sincerity and charm. Their shared connection blossomed into a marriage in , beginning a journey that would span over half a century.
Suzanne embraced the life of a military spouse, accompanying Ray on assignments both within the United States and abroad. Their shared passion for travel led them to explore diverse corners of the world. Beyond the routine of military life, they ventured into Central America, visiting Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. They climbed volcanic slopes in the Philippines and trekked through jungles to discover ancient Mayan ruins. Her spirit of adventure remained undimmed even as her health began to decline.
After settling in Pooler, Georgia, Suzanne and Ray continued their travels, exploring the U.S. And international destinations until her health prevented further journeys. Throughout her life, Suzanne’s strength and determination were evident, particularly in her courageous battle against illness.
She was predeceased by her parents, Cornelia and Malcolm Arnsdorff, and her brothers, Malcolm Jr. And Charles. Suzanne is survived by her husband, Ray Clough, her son, Roger Lee Ford, and her daughters, Virginia Suzette Winfrey and Heather Michelle Holmes. She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a date and time to be determined. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, friends and loved ones consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of their choice in memory of Virginia Suzanne Clough. Families First Funeral Care & Cremation Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
