Actor Haley Joel Osment has reflected on his experience working with Bruce Willis during the production of The Sixth Sense. Osment noted that Willis made a significant impression on him, describing the actor as the first giant celebrity he had worked with during the late 1990s.

The collaboration occurred during a period when Willis was established as a global superstar. This professional relationship extended beyond the set, as Osment mentioned that Willis would call him from time to time.

The Rise of a Global Superstar

Bruce Willis’s transition to a household name began with his role as detective David Addison in the 1980s television series Moonlighting. His move into cinema was solidified in 1988 with the release of the action blockbuster Die Hard, where he played John McClane.

Following Die Hard, Willis became one of the most versatile and well-known actors of his generation through a series of high-profile films, including Pulp Fiction and The Sixth Sense.

Early Career and Unconventional Beginnings

Before achieving fame, Willis’s path to acting was not linear. Born on March 19, 1955, in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, he was raised in Penns Grove, New Jersey. He did not initially pursue acting as a career, though he was known for his sense of humor and ability to perform impressions for friends and family.

Early Career and Unconventional Beginnings

His formal introduction to the performing arts happened while attending Montclair State University in New Jersey, where he majored in drama. After graduating, he moved to New York City to attempt to break into the industry.

During his early years in New York, Willis held a role that Bill Murray described as insane. He worked as a page for NBC’s Saturday Night Live, which functioned as an internship. According to Murray, the job involved visiting dressing rooms to refill snacks, such as M&Ms and pretzels, for the actors.

Bruce Willis is a good guy, a good f—ing guy. He was a good friend.

Health Challenges and Retirement

In recent years, the actor’s career has come to an end due to significant health struggles. In the spring of 2022, his family announced that he had been diagnosed with aphasia. This diagnosis was later updated to frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a condition that affects the parts of the brain associated with behavior and language.

The diagnosis was officially confirmed in February 2023. His wife, Emma Heming Willis, has shared that the condition has caused his language abilities to decline, requiring the family to adapt their communication methods.

Due to the requirements of his care, Willis is currently living in a one-floor home separate from his family to receive around-the-clock assistance. Despite this arrangement, Emma Heming Willis continues to eat breakfast and dinner with him daily, and his daughters, Mabel and Evelyn, see him regularly.
