Rahat Shooting: Young Man Killed in Apparent Revenge Attack

October 4, 2025 – A 21-year-old man, identified as Adam al-Ubra, was fatally shot in Rahat, a city in southern Israel, late Saturday night, according to police reports. The shooting appears to be linked to a long-running blood feud between rival families.

Police arrested three suspects overnight in connection with the shooting, following a weekend marked by escalating criminal violence in the city. The incident unfolded around 10:30 p.m. When several individuals reportedly arrived at the home of a rival family and opened fire, seriously injuring two men. Paramedics transported both victims to a hospital, where al-Ubra was pronounced dead.

The shooting is believed to be retaliation for an earlier altercation. According to police, one man stabbed another during a brawl between members of the two families. The stabbing prompted the armed response that resulted in al-Ubra’s death and the injury of another man.

Law enforcement officials also reported a separate shooting earlier on Saturday morning, in which a 27-year-old doctor at Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center was seriously injured after gunmen fired at his car in Rahat. Police stated this ambush was connected to a separate, ongoing blood feud that has claimed three lives since 2013.

Following the attack on the doctor, police arrested five suspects who allegedly attempted to flee the scene. During searches of the families’ residences connected to both incidents, police seized a significant cache of weaponry, including assault rifles and handguns. Authorities believe some of the weapons were stolen from Israel Defense Forces (IDF) bases in the area.

The violence in Rahat highlights a broader pattern of escalating conflict within Arab Israeli communities, where disputes can quickly escalate to lethal violence. A recent report suggests that more and more murders stem from petty disputes, rather than organized crime, with communities feeling abandoned by the Israeli government.

The situation in Rahat is particularly volatile, with multiple, overlapping feuds contributing to a climate of fear and retribution. The police investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging the city’s mayor to intervene and attempt to quell the violence.

Elsewhere in the region, today, reports indicate that US forces have evacuated Syria’s al-Tanf military base, relocating to Jordan. The base, strategically located in the tri-border area of Syria, Jordan, and Iraq, served as a key hub for operations against Islamic State terrorists.

On a separate note, Iranian President Pezeshkian stated during a speech commemorating the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution that the regime is “ready to hear the voice of the people.” This came after a statement expressing shame before the Iranian people.

Meanwhile, former US President Trump, following a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, insisted that negotiations with Iran continue and a deal should be reached. He also stated that “tremendous progress” has been made in Gaza and the wider Middle East. Prime Minister Netanyahu has officially joined the Gazan Board of Peace.

The Pentagon is also reportedly preparing a second aircraft carrier for possible deployment to the Middle East, signaling continued US concern over regional instability.
