The first blasts were reported around 7:00 a.m. local time, shortly after military officials reported tracking a high-speed target heading towards Kyiv. A second target was later detected on a similar trajectory.
“Air defense forces are working in Kyiv! Please seek shelter immediately!” Kyiv Mayor Vitali klitschko urged residents in a Telegram post.
Further explosions were heard in the city, prompting the Ukrainian Air Force to announce the detection of another target approaching Kyiv from the Chernihiv region.
A particularly powerful explosion shook the city around 7:11 a.m., followed by at least three more blasts. military officials later confirmed that a ballistic missile had been launched from the north towards the capital.
Air defense systems were also activated in the Kyiv region, according to the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration.

Mayor Klitschko reported that an explosion in the Holosiivskyi district had caused damage, but details about casualties and the extent of the destruction remain unclear.

“Information about casualties and the extent of the damage is being clarified,” the administration stated.Further reports emerged of a fire in a building in the Solomyanskyi district, also attributed to falling debris. Klitschko confirmed the fire and reported debris hitting a residential building’s roof in the Dniprovskyi district.
The attacks come amidst ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine.
