Bulgaria is preparing to host the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest following DARA’s victory with the song “Bangaranga” at the 2026 competition.

The victory has sparked a domestic competition over which city should serve as the host for the 2027 event, with leadership in both Burgas and Sofia expressing strong interest in organizing the contest.

Competing Bids for Host City

The Mayor of Burgas has categorically declared the city’s desire to host the Eurovision Song Contest. Local leadership has formally requested that Burgas be selected as the venue for the 2027 event.

Simultaneously, Sofia is positioning itself as the primary candidate. Mayor Terziev stated on May 17, 2026, that the capital is preparing to welcome DARA with a red carpet.

The Director of the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) has supported the feasibility of hosting the event in the capital and the country at large.

Sofia can, Bulgaria can and BNT can.

Political and Global Context

The victory has been framed by political observers as having significant diplomatic implications. Politico reported that Bulgaria’s win saved the Eurovision Song Contest from a “nightmare scenario” involving Israel.

Bulgarian politicians have noted that the victory carries a global resonance, arguing that the result demonstrates that the contest’s outcomes are not driven by political motivations.

Artist Reaction and Infrastructure

Following the win, DARA encouraged supporters to remain creative and proactive while looking toward the next contest.

Act, create, fulfill and let’s prepare for “Eurovision” in Sofia.

Discussions regarding the event’s infrastructure have also surfaced, including a proposal regarding the naming of a potential venue.

If there is a new stadium for “Eurovision” in Bulgaria, it should be called “Freedom”.
