"Night Market King" Launches with Exciting Competition

"Night Market King" held a press conference to launch its first season on Wei Lai. This food competition marks Taiwan’s return to large-scale culinary contests after 50 years. The event featured popular hosts Lulu Huanglu Jiayin, Ada, and Meily, along with special guests Han Gou and Elizabeth.

The show is produced by "My Schedule Co., Ltd.," the team behind "Big Hip Hop 2." It invites the top ten night markets in Taiwan to compete for the title of "Night Market King." Known for its controversies, the show highlights debates over popular dishes. In the second episode, a dispute arose between "Crispy Pie" and "Charcoal Grilled Pie," both claiming to represent traditional "Chicken Steak." Judge Zeng Zhiwei expressed how difficult it was to make decisions due to the deliciousness of the dishes.

Judges from Taiwan and Thailand shared their experiences during the tasting. One remarked on the pleasure of eating but felt the stress of making decisions. A humorous moment occurred when a judge mentioned a “handsome competitor” causing some excitement among the judges, all while insisting that looks did not influence their scores.

To maintain the food’s ideal temperature, the show features quick three-minute serving intervals known as "wheel battles." Veteran judge Eric Tsang jokingly complained about the rapid pace, stating he needed to eat faster. He emphasized his motivation for judging: enjoying all the night market food at once.

"Night Market King" airs every Saturday at 7 PM on Wei Lai Comprehensive Channel and at 10 PM on Taiwan TV. It is also available on Chunghwa Telecom MOD and Hami Video, along with the official YouTube channel. In Singapore, viewers can watch it on Hub Metropolis Channel every Sunday.
